Tran Trung Tin (1933-) is one of Vietnam?s pre-eminent contemporary artists know for the strong expressionism of his work. In defiance of the authorities, he created oils on newspaper to show the suffering of the people of Hanoi during the Vietnam War. After the war, he was moved to depict the plight of the Vietnamese boat people in small oils on photographic paper. This first monograph was the catalogue for the British Museum exhibition, Tran Trung Tin: Memories of War, June-December 2002. The exhibition drew 75,000 visitors and will travel to US in 2007/2008.
