Football
One Game - Many Worlds
Karin Guggeis et al
The "Football: One Game - Many Worlds" project is an official contribution made by the Art an Culture Programme of the Federal German government to FIFA World Cup in cooperation with OC 2006 FIFA World Cup.
The publication presents from the anthropological angle the main and ancillary theatres of operations in which this worldwide phenomenon can be observed. Japanese football mangas and the Neapolitan cult of Maradona, Latin American "fetishes" to invoke "the gods of football" and West African coffins shaped like football shoes: artefacts and fotographs from the four corners of the earth reveal exotic and unknown aspects of football as wll as its familiar sides in a new and often astonishing light. Commentated and explained by internationally renowned experts, the many illustrations bring alive the unsuspected cultural diversity of football across the world.
