These Amish quilts dating from the Victorian era, from the Jugendstil and Art Déco periods are astonishing for their stringent geometry, large colour fields and astringent compositions. They are strikingly close to Concrete Art, Hard-Edge painting and Minimal Art. The book is published on the occasion of the exhibition "Diamond and Bars", staged by the Neue Sammlung | Design in the Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich, between 30 March and June 2007. The exhibition then moves to the ZKM in Karlsruhe.
