The development of Chinese furniture peaked during the Ming dynasty. In late Ming, lacquer furniture was in common use, but hardwood was much more saught-after as the nation craved antique design. Due to its exquisite craftsmanship, high aesthetic and important historical value, Chinese furniture has exerted a lasting effect on many countries in the East and West. The Lu Ming Shi collection of Mr. Philippe De Backer, showcased here, contains a vast number of Ming hardwood pieces. The collection covers virtually the full range of classical Chinese furniture, including chests, cabinets, beds, chairs, stools, tables and scholar's items.
