WHAT IS WATER? More than two thousand years ago the question was raised: Quid bibis, unda aut aqua ? what do you drink, the wave or the water? This attempt at an answer articulates mythological approaches through religious applications and philosophical aspects to explanatory scientific paradigms. The fragmentation of heuristic knowledge into such categories as archaeology, biology, chemistry and physics, geology and astronomy has brought with it a deepening of knowledge yet has at the same time diminished the overall view. Aristotle wrote that under certain conditions warm water can freeze more quickly than cold. This book, therefore, represents and attempt at a comprehensive way of looking at the question, structured according to temporal contexts and states of energy, of developments in technology and paradigm shifts, interfused by culture, art and artefacts.
